ASP FAQs

What is an ASP?

An ASP, or application service provider, is a service firm that delivers, manages, and remotely hosts software applications through centrally located servers in a “rental” or lease arrangement.

In addition to the management and administration of the applications, ASPs are also involved in the management and ongoing support to customers and their data. This includes software support, patches, upgrades, etc.

For customers, ASPs provide cost-effective, remote accessibility where customers can receive the management, maintenance, and support they need. The cost savings can be dramatic, usually between 30% and 50% less than your internal operations.

The other reason to look into a hosted solution is core competencies. Your internal technology department manages only implementation of a corporate real estate and/or facilities management system, we manage dozens.

How does an ASP work?

Typically, the client, or end user, does not have ownership of the software nor the associated costs and responsibilities of maintaining the system in the ASP model. Through an Internet web browser, the user is able to access the application from anywhere in the world. Because the application is processed on a centralized server, the user can run powerful applications without the need of a powerful computers and servers at the users location. In some cases the client retains the ownership of the software licenses and we manage them on our infrastructure.

The necessary components of ASPs include:

  • Systems implementation
  • Systems integration
  • Data-center infrastructure
  • Support and maintenance

What are the costs?

ASP’s are usually much less expensive than a traditional implementation. We can usually have a client fully up and running within weeks. This combined with the fact that we manage many clients from a common infrastructure drives lower costs (usually 20-50% less).

Most ASP’s operate on a fixed monthly fee basis, determined by:

  • number of users
  • number of applications being hosted
  • resources needed to manage the application
  • length of the contract
  • data change management services selected

Benefits of an ASP

Lower Labor Costs - By consolidating the application management process, companies realize significant savings in labor management costs.

Rapid Deployment -The implementation periods enable companies to be up and running in a matter of weeks compared to months and years through traditional channels.

Reduced Capital Investment - With an ASP, companies avoid the enormous upfront capital investment that comes with the traditional application delivery model. Instead, companies can utilize the capital for more strategic business initiatives.

Transfer of Ownership - The client no longer owns the application or the responsibilities associated with initial and ongoing maintenance in an ASP environment. Via the web, clients access centralized servers where the various software management applications are housed.

Focus on core business - The client gets state of the art technology backed up by didicated professionals with deep expertease in corporate real estate and facilities technology. This ttranslates into better leveraging of technology and dramatic increases in speed.
