Bringing Intelligent IT Asset Management to the Enterprise

EnterpriseAM from Eracent

Managing and tracking a company’s IT assets, whether it has 10 or 100,000 computers deployed, can be a daunting prospect. Eracent’s EnterpriseAM assists IT managers with this task, helping them monitor their assets more easily and more completely.

EnterpriseAM is an integrated software tool that discovers and inventories the software and hardware assets throughout a corporate network, regardless of its size or topography. Scalable to any size network, EnterpriseAM identifies and lists every device on the network using a single, small-footprint server. EnterpriseAM discovers and catalogs all types of end user PCs, and can inventory the components of individual end user systems and identify software down to the file level.

Simply put, EnterpriseAM is an invaluable tool in helping you keep tabs on your enterprise-wide IT assets. Completely. Simply. Cost-effectively.

Accurate

Half the information is often half the problem. Knowing generally what is in a network doesn’t answer many of the hard questions. What if you had to immediately know:

  • Which specific systems need to be replaced for us to upgrade to the newest OS?
  • What individual systems are running outdated releases of our anti-virus software and are infecting other systems in the network?
  • Which computers are running software we have no record of licensing?
  • What percentage of the applications that we purchase are actually in use?

Without the precise information available from Eracent’s EnterpriseAM discovery and reporting technology, ITAM managers could just be guessing. And guessing about upgrades or software license compliance can be dangerous and expensive. Over and underlicensing can have serious bottom line repercussions, as can over and under-ordering for system upgrades. Not to mention the real costs of misjudging new system requirements. EnterpriseAM lets you inventory hardware systems at the configuration component level, and quickly discover and identify software down to the file level. Precise information really does mean never having to say "I’m sorry, I just assumed the data was right".

No Need to Scale

In order to know what is on your network, you need to discover and inventory each and every desktop, laptop and server in the system. That means that your asset management system needs to cover the entire enterprise network, not just one building or campus or country. If you were to design a discovery system you would probably want the system to dynamically expand or contract with the size of your enterprise, and not have any artificial limits on size. Ideally, the system would operate from a single server at a location of your choice, and the discovery software would be distributed to every computer you own from that server. It goes without saying that the discovery system would run across any network configuration and would discover any kind of computer and OS. Finally, you’d want to be able to accomplish all of this with the same staff you have today. Fortunately, Eracent’s EnterpriseAM does all of this already, without modification or enhancement. It’s probably just what you’d design for your company. Even more fortunately, Eracent has already done all the work. All you have to do is add computers.

Compliance

Software companies are really a sensitive lot. They have this peculiar habit of wanting users to pay for the software loaded on their computers. And, even though this may seem unreasonable to some people in your company, the software publishers, along with the US Justice Department, take real offense when corporations are running more software than they paid for. To insure that your company is in compliance all you need to do is count all of the computers and every software application that is running, and compare that to what your supply chain organization licensed. To be really sure that your firm is properly licensed, you should do it every week. Sound hard? Complicated? Expensive? Not really. Eracent EnterpriseAM can automatically reconcile your hardware and software and purchasing records and keep you up to date on what’s going on at the desktop. And the data EnterpriseAM outputs is accepted by major publishers and software audit agencies. So, you can count by hand again and again, or let Eracent automate the process. You probably have better things to do than count computers, anyway.

Simplicity

Complexity is a good thing in food and wine. It’s not such a good thing in IT asset management systems. ITAM systems that require multiple servers, dedicated personnel and software that must be manually loaded on each end user device defeat the purpose of the system. Information that is difficult and expensive to collect is contrary to the basic intent of an ITAM system, which is to provide accurate data and improve ROI. EnterpriseAM runs on a single server and auto loads a small discovery script on the end-user device. It provides web access to and downloads from a remote software reference database that Eracent updates weekly. System administration is a part time job for a junior staff member. Save complexity for dinner. Enjoy the simplicity of EnterpriseAM at work.

Security

A few years ago it was reported that a governmental agency could not locate over 200 laptops and/or hard drives. Not too long ago a major US technology vendor reported that key software technology had found its way to the People’s Republic of China. IT security is more than preventing intruders from accessing your databases. It’s knowing what systems are running and which ones are not, tracking the physical location of each system on a regular basis. And knowing when files have been transferred to systems that don’t normally use those specific files or applications. US Executive Order 13308 requires all governmental agencies to be able to track their IT assets, and Eracent EnterpriseAM is fully compliant with the regulation. Eracent EnterpriseAM assigns a unique system identifier to each PC, logs it’s physical location regularly discovers system configurations and examines the applications and file types on each PC and laptop. Through holistic and exception item reporting you can monitor key changes in system usage or contents, and take action to prevent serious problems. Lost and misappropriated information can be costly. Eracent can help you to identify what you have, where and how often it’s used and track how it’s being moved.

Multi-Language

By now the phrase "global economy" is as well worn as a favorite pair of jeans. NAFTA has facilitated trade in North America as the EU and Euro have done in Europe. However, a global economy has not yet resulted in a global language. Companies with multi-national operations still want to have uniform IT systems and controls. They need the same ITAM solution that runs in the US to run in the Pacific rim, South American and Europe. That’s why EnterpriseAM has built-in multi-lingual capabilities. Simply select the language of choice from a menu and the commands, menus and reports are displayed in that language. Beyond that, EnterpriseAM is also compliant with the American with Disabilities Act Section 508 and interfaces with audio mouse pass-over solutions to permit use by the visually impaired. Language shouldn’t be a barrier to doing business, and EnterpriseAM helps break down language barriers to perfecting IT asset management.
